I've got a Paso 100% Vermentino from Tablas Creek in my wine fridge right now :) It's definitely on the richer side, like your Bonny Doon bottle, but crazy well balanced. Next time you swing through Paso I highly rec prioritizing a pit stop there! One of the very best.

I just checked my notes as we DID go to Tablas Creek but they were not pouring the Vermentino that day... Pity! They were instrumental in importing Vermentino into the US upon the Perrin family's recommendation! I could have written so much more...

Aww, that is a shame. It was the white that most stood out to me when I last went (which was like 2 years ago, so it’s been some time.) But goes to show what kind of impression a Vermentino can make!

Exactly my point- Vermentino stays with us! I love that you get it! Pity that I never got to try it at Tablas...I like both styles equally!

Loved this back story! A good reminder to try some on my upcoming trip. Thank you!

Yes do try them! Where are you travelling to?

Mostly Tuscany with a side trip to Florence. I feel like Italian whites need some airtime.

Totally agree that the whites need air time! You will have a wonderful time! So much to explore!

The other name controversy is that Pigato (from Liguria) and Favorita (from Piemonte) are both likely Vermentino biotypes. But it depends on who you ask.

Also, I would recommend Verm from Gallura in Sardegna and/or those from Liguria (Verm or Pigato)

Ooouuu, I will keep an eye out for them!
