I am so glad you enjoyed it! I love that part of the world! You and I reconnected there as Avignon is in the heart 💜 of it! I will be with you in spirit this weekend! Enjoy every moment! ❤️
So many villages in Southern Rhone makes me feel like there is just so much to unpack there, and appreciate. Add in the amount of different grapes allowed in the Southern blends, no wonder there is so much variation to the region. Thank you for teaching us about Ventoux.
I do love a Cotes de Ventoux rosé in the summer - great fresh taste and good value. A spicy, peppery red Rhone is great with richer autumnal dishes. Try as I might (and I have), I can’t seem to enjoy white Cote du Rhones and am not partial to marsanne, Viognier or roussanne. I find the wines too flabby and heavy - lacking acidity?
It can be tough as the sites need to be cool enough for the grapes to retain their acidity and pick at the right moment. Viognier tends to drop its acidity quickly which makes things tricky. The same Ventoux producer has white blends that I really appreciated.
Another great read. Especially ahead of the Tour de France having Mont Ventoux on course this year. Heading to Beaune as we speak X
