It's fun to see what articles do best, isn't it? I'm sometimes quite surprised too.

Totally! It would be interesting to be able to survey everyone to better understand their likes and dislikes! I am sure there are some variables that I am not even considering?! How much is it about the picture or the headline? Who knows! Thanks Betty!

I think the headline is super important when people are subscribed to many Substacks and don’t read them all, but probably less so for people who usually read our publication. My biggest surprise has been that a few posts I even hesitated to publish did surprisingly well. I wonder about the photo for publications…and on Notes, I’m surprised at how plain old “pretty pictures” with no context or explanation, which I try not to post, seem to get a lot of traction.

I find Notes to be tricky as I wonder if certain Notes get pushed for "strange" reasons??? 🤔

I’m sure that’s the case too…I think especially, the more you post Notes, the more they circulate your notes (and possibly even your posts through the app.)

And then there is the big “Notes boost” scheme sponsored by one of the big Substack gurus…

I try not to overthink Notes though.

Thanks Sarah! I always appreciate your feedback! I enjoy getting behind the scenes posts from the people I follow. I struggled with pressing publish … felt this post was too self-centered or something… but my business mind finally convinced me … Glad I did! I hope this finds you well!
